chennai: The AIADMK government’s budget has evoked mixed reactions with DMK chief M. Karunanidhi criticising it for lacking any schemes or objectives while allies including the DMDK hailed the budget.

In a statement issued here, DMK chief said that the AIADMK government’s budget presented in the assembly as “a mere compilation of all departmental notes to the government” and lacked any schemes or objectives.

Mr Karuananidhi noted there was no mention of samacheer kalvi which was an “important problem faced by students.”

“While Jayalalithaa has criticised the DMK government on the outstanding debt senario, today’s budget only projects it (debt) will only be growing up by Rs 18,000 crore at the end of 2012-12,” he said and sarcastically wanted to know if this was the ‘achievement’ she has made in three months.

Leader of the Opposition and DMDK president Vijayakanth said the budget presented by the government had met his party’s expectations.

Hailing the budget, he said it had many schemes to eradicate poverty and generate more jobs.

He also criticised Mr Karunanidhi for finding fault with AIADMK’s budget. “If Mr Karunanidhi was really concerned about the state’s welfare, he should get his ally Congress to allocate Rs 10,000 crore assistance to the state,” he said.

CPI (M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan said his party welcomed the AIADMK government’s efforts to fulfil its poll promises.

CPI state secretary D. Pandian said the government had tried to protect agriculture, small and medium industries in the budget.
